Control System Engineer

Odyssey Controls, Inc.is seeking a Control System Engineer with the experience necessary to make an immediate impact on active projects.  Our project scope and frequency is growing rapidly, and we afford candidates that display a combination of strong work ethic, technical skill and excellent customer focus the ability to develop a rewarding career.

Duties:

  • Provide project support as directed by the Project Manager.
  • Responsible for executing tasks and producing deliverables as outlined in the Project Plan.
  • Provide task and technical leadership and, at times, maintain a portion of the Project Plan.
  • Determine correct product application to match customer needs; determine custom parameters and programming requirements, product pricing, product selection, order/quote processing, product development assistance and other customer requests.
  • Produces technical design documentation to include single lines, motor elementary’s, loop sheets, control panel electrical diagrams and other general electrical schematics.
  • Lead technical design reviews with customers throughout the project design phase.
  • Responsible for final review of all electrical designs before being released for construction.
  • Responsible for specification and review of instrumentation and equipment.
  • Responsible for generating conduit schedules and wire pulls sheets to support installation efforts and work with contractors to understand the requirements; perform field audits to ensure quality installation.
  • Work with vendors and customers to determine proper product selection.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to evaluate concept feasibility and resolve technical issues.
  • Supports development of electrical schematics and piping and instrumentation diagrams.
  • Continually reviews designs, whether internal or external, and informs the Project Manager of any potential flaws in the design.
  • Performs on-site start-up activities directed by the Project Manager in accordance with the Project Plan.
  • Performs on-site evaluations with existing and potential customers to produce project scope documentation.
  • Performs on-site review of intended installation and produces redline drawings.
  • Applies updates captured during redline process to as-built drawing package.
  • Responsible for project software generation to meet customer specific programming and parameter settings for custom applications, including but not limited to PLC and SCADA programming.
  • Generates test plans for factory acceptance testing of applications and manufactured products.
  • Under limited supervision, guides technical service teams in pre-sales and post-sales technical support including commissioning, installation, testing and maintenance services to customers.
  • Generates required technical turnover documentation at project closure and ensures turnover documentation meets or exceeds customer requirements.
  • Provide necessary training to customers on the features and proper use of the provided applications and products.
  • Supports sales staff by evaluating customer RFQ’s, often collaborating with other systems engineers and project management to develop customized solutions for incorporation into proposals.
  • Supports sales staff by providing technical detail and pricing for adopted proposals/solutions.

The successful Control System Engineer candidate will possess the following:

  • BS in Engineering; Electrical preferred, Process or Chemical considered.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience working directly with facility and process automation control systems at a level of responsibility equal to the duties specified above.
  • Knowledge of multiple control system platforms.
  • Understanding and ability to work with and from PFD, P&ID's.
  • Experience in programming various makes of PLC hardware.
  • Expertise in AutoCAD Electrical is highly desirable.
  • Knowledgeable in ISO 9001:2000 and UL508
  • The successful candidate will be working as an integral part of a team consisting of both colleagues and customer professionals, so strong communication skills are essential, including excellent written, verbal and presentation skills.
  • Projects can be dynamic and the successful candidate must be able to think creatively and strategically, have excellent judgment and be able to work in a changing environment.
  • Position will require travel to customer project sites, including immediate on-site project assignments in the Eastern U.S.

Education:

  • BS Engineering; Electrical preferred, Process or Chemical considered.
